In her brand new single, “Rising Tides, Crashing Skies,” EJ Carey is unashamed to speak her truth. From the first line, it’s clear EJ is taking listeners on a journey, one where she paints a picture of where things went sour in this relationship. The mellow beginnings of the song--with hints of lyrical sass--prepare for the eventual buildup at the chorus that you can’t help but dance along to. From the strong vocals to the honest storytelling, EJ leaves you wanting more.
This leading track off her upcoming album speaks volumes to her artistic talent as a songwriter and storyteller. The isolated guitar and vocals at the start of the song help aim the focus on the “I’ve got something to say” vibe of the lyrics. Once you make it to the pre-chorus, the song catapults from there with the unique use of background vocals that add to the overall feeling. It’s a preview for what’s to come, a window into where EJ Carey has been since her last album, “Loaded Question.” From her composition of captivating lyrics to her ability to create a fun, no-BS pop song that tells a story, this single encompasses it all.

“I chose this as the lead single because it’s kind of like a cannonball,” EJ explains. “Both sonically and lyrically, I feel like it makes a pretty big impact on the listener.” And she’s not wrong: This song is full of upfront lyrics that empower anyone listening. “It’s a fitting theme for the rest of the album,” she continues, “which is about doing what’s best for me and letting go of things that aren’t helpful to me anymore.” This is the kind of “move-on” song we all need right now. Whether it’s a relationship, a friendship, or even a negative experience, EJ will encourage you to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and leave behind what’s holding you back.
