I’ve been a fan of Taylor Swift since I was fourteen years old. The first song I ever heard was “Teardrops on My Guitar,” but unlike most I wasn’t immediately hooked.  All I remember is one minute I was looking into her music and the next I was fully immersed into the lyrical genius that is Taylor Swift and her songwriting.
Being a Taylor Swift fan for the past eleven years hasn’t been the smoothest ride. Every celebrity has their fair share of haters and critics, but when it comes to Swift it seems as if the entire world has an agenda against her. They’re more interested in who she’s dating and making the joke “watch out, she’s going to write a song about you!” than anything else she’s known for: i.e. her charity work, her relationship with her fans, etc.
With the release of her latest album, 1989, back in October of 2014, however, a new wave of fans immersed from the shadows.
“I didn’t use to like her, but I do now.”
“I bought 1989, never thought that would happen.”
These are just a few of the many comments I’ve seen or heard since 1989 was released. For a long time fan like myself, it’s a conundrum to think that Swift has strayed too far from what she’s always done. Besides her transition from Country to Pop and her ‘shake it off’ attitude, she’s still the same Swift I’ve grown to love and support.
So to do her previous work justice, here is a list of songs you must listen to if you love these from 1989:
